Challenge & Problem
Since the launch of auto-settlement 9 months ago on nomba platform which is a feature that allows businesses to be a receive settlement (payment) on a specified given period of time which can be daily, weekly, and monthly. We realised a significant drop off of 70% in usage of auto-settlement as businesses turned to disabled it in their account.
The challenge was that they was a significant drop off in usage in auto-settlement which affected the company (nomba as a business) revenue as the more usage of auto-settlement tends to bring certain percentage to the company.
What was happening
Based on research and feedback we got from merchants using our platform, we discovered that businesses with multiple team members had to always split settlement manually after a weekly or monthly settlement is paid to the business owner account.

DESIGN GOAL
To design a feature on nomba platform that allows business split settlement into different bank account.
OUTCOME
We built a intuitive feature that enables merchants to be split settlement into different bank account securely. After the launch we realised a significant reduction in drop off and increased in usage of 85%.
Market Research
Working along side with the Research team, we started by looking at what exiting products that has similar feature in the market we were able to find few. We decided to conduct a competitor analysis, which then influenced our design decision.
Design Approach
🔒
Safe and responsible
The split feature is a feature that should be accessible by only the owner of the business. which in the case we were cautious of this.
🧭
Simple and easy to navigate
Knowing that this is feature that has been in demand, we decide to make it easy for merchants and easy to access.
Keeping the experience simple.
Based on findings we got from exiting product, myself and product manager decided to work on a user flow that would be easy for merchants to navigate. Since auto-settlement is connected to split settlement, we decided to plug them together.
Split Settlement Process
We designed the split settlement as a feature being a part of the auto-settlement. As auto-settlement is a feature being used by merchants that wants to receives funds in bulk at a given period of time. This decision made, was inevitable as merchant would always have to have their auto-settlement in order receive funds in bulk.
In added a “+” plus icon beside the auto-settlement toggle that represent addition and also, to make the onboarding smooth and easy to understand we added an hover effect that tell the user the meaning of the “+” which shows “Create Split Settlement”

Security & Visibility for Split settlement
To make sure, the feature is transparent and understandable for any of our user, we made sure - we leverage on making clarity and visibility. On clicking on the create - merchant get to select the split type (Percentage or Fixed) - this type was informed by research done. Merchants enters the necessary details - which include sub-account details. We also made it clear for merchant to clearly see the details of the account they have entered, showing percentage.
We also made sure, we cautious of security as we are designing a feature that deals with funds leaving the account, we designed it in a way that only the owner of the account can validate the accountbeing added, by added a verification flow.
Notification & Email
I designed email template to help merchants get notification for OTP and also get to see details of their split settlement.

This shows the end-to-end design process from creating a split settlement and adding accounts
Outcomes
Following a successful usability test, this feature was launched with great success, significantly reducing the number of auto-settlement drop-offs by 70% and boosting the usage of auto-settlement by 85%.
This project exemplified strong collaboration as I worked directly with the Research team and Product to ensure accuracy and effectiveness from the outset.
